Welcome to the Ruhr metropolis of Dortmund! This city is known for two things: mining and soccer. However, in the slipstream of the structural change that the entire Ruhr area is currently undergoing, a very attractive cultural scene is developing in the city, which is also worth exploring. The “Dortmunder U” or the “Theater Dortmund”, which is both an opera house and a theater at the same time, and is the venue for various cultural events, are representative of this cultural scene. From a historical point of view, of course, the economic and industrial history of the entire Ruhr area as the center of the German coal, ore and steel industry plays the absolutely defining role. In order for visitors to be able to get an idea of this historical legacy, the now disused "Zeche Zollern" has been affiliated with the LWL-Industriemuseum - Westphalian State Museum for Industrial Culture and serves as a kind of "open-air museum" for visitors. Last but not least: Whoever hears the name "Dortmund" most likely thinks first of football and the venerable Westfalenstadion (today Signal-Iduna-Park) with its legendary "Yellow Wall". but also a visit to the football museum. From a traffic point of view, the a&o Dortmund is conveniently located just 300 meters from the main train station, directly north-west on the inner city ring road. From here there is a good connection to local public transport. The main shopping street in Westenhellweg is also in the immediate vicinity.
