The Grandhotel Pupp was founded in 1701 by Johann Georg Pupp, an original confectioner. The Grandhotel Pupp continues the tradition of the Bohemian and Saxon Halls, which were among the first social and lodging venues in Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad). For more than three centuries, it has been a place of encounters and entertainment, as well as a synonym for first-class gastronomy and service. Numerous famous figures have stayed at the hotel, including Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Sebastian Bach, Napoleon Bonaparte, Maria Theresa, and Richard Wagner.
